The new one from singer/songwriter @departmentoftangents is a self-dubbed “misanthropic folk” delight. We first heard this track on a murky afternoon while traveling westbound on Storrow Dr.--maybe it was the bustling traffic, maybe it was the weather, maybe it was the feeling of fatigue after a long day, but in that moment, something about this song seemed to synchronize with the outside world. Comfortably supported by a crisp acoustic guitar and a perfectly aligned organ, Zaino vocalizes what most of us only think about. He sings, “Are people worth redeeming? Maybe some, but not this one” and “Sometimes I watch the world explode inside my head and cheer the dead” with quintessential folk tonality. The sense of foreboding aside, it’s this kind of raw honesty and genuineness that elevates this track, secures it as memorable, and demands that it be heard.
